Updated CC:KC webstie

We have just recently updated the CC:KC website.  So check it out!

CC:KC Kickstarter

// CC:KC Kickstarter Launch!//

I am a part of a Kansas city artist collective called CC:KC.  We are a group of artist who are working together to create a publication showcasing some rad Kansas City artist.  We also are a support system who critique and drives each others work.

We have spent almost a year putting together a Zine that we would like to get published but we really need funding! (SO MUCH!)

So we have put together a Kickstarter that we launched yesterday

Please think about donating!  Even a dollar would help.  You would be contributing to the start of something amazing and not to mention your name would go into our publication.  You could tell people you helped create a arts publication. How cool is that.

// Now Knowing//

One of my images from my self portrait series I did in the fall got chosen to be in a show called Now Knowing at Cara and Cabezas contemporary. I was really excited and nervous about the whole thing, but overall I think it was a great experience for me.

Here are some images from the opening night

(That’s me in the red^)

The show was from March 23 - May 5

 It got a lot of attention, and my friend CJ who co curated the show did an excellent job!  My piece sold the first weekend, which was super exciting!

Before the last weekend of the show a Kansas City Newspaper called the Pitch did an article about the show and talked about me/my work in it!  My image was also printed in the newspaper; which was terrifying and cool all at the same time.

I got a lot of comments about my image most good, but I did get some inappropriate sexist remarks which was disappointing.

My image is a nude self portrait of myself where I explore themes of sexuality and the inner struggle of piecing together my own sexuality.  It is hard for people to look past a nude body and think of anything more then sex, but that is not the point of my image.  I encourage people to look at it critically and get past that narrow mind set.

These are some images of my sister from an advertising campaign for KYMCO scooters.  Just thought I would post them because they are humorous and my sister is lovely.

Here are my images from critique.  They are from a series I’m doing where I recreate childhood memories into images of a fantastical nature, that take on fairy tale like qualities.  Hope you like!

Had my mid semester reviews yesterday! These are my hung pieces that got critiqued; I think it went well.

Building frames!

Here are some images from the self portrait series I created last fall.  I was dealing with expressing parts of myself that I don’t always like to confront, like anxieties and dark aspects of my personality.  It was really challenging but I like the work that came out of it.
